Well, I'm pretty new to building GBB's. I usually just settle for my KWA Glock but I want something that I can put some work into and be proud of. Since you guys are quite good with this stuff, I hope you don't mind if I just post my parts questions on this thread. Thanks!
First question:
How is the quality of the Guarder P226 metal frame and slide kit? Will I need to do any complex fitting to get it to work? It's the only kit in stock at AEX Torrance, the closest walkin store to where I live.
wait, you think AEX Torrance is far, I live 35 miles away...
The guarder kit is okay but you have to sand the BBU
I suggest the Prowin p226 kits, easy to install and much better than that die-casted kit, the price is right also
Do you know where I can find one? The only ones I can find are the Guarder and PGC. I'd also like to shop in the U.S, if possible.
i suppose since this topic is talkin about 226 kits... i'll give my 2 cents
got a full metal KJW, and thought that was decent, but not amazing...
recently acquired a tm226 w/ guarder kit, and theres a huge difference, its pretty damn good,
now ive never seen or held a pgc/prowin/creation/action kit in person, but i think you would be more than satisfied w/ a guarder kit if you dont want to spring for a more expensive one....
also, if you dont have the kit already, you should just buy the built one that ehobby asia sells, then add parts to that, will save you about 50 to 100 bucks depending on where you shop for it...
anyone have any experience w/ the action kits?
action kit is worth the $100 price tag but it's crappy, bad finish, bad fittment and everything, but it's metal
PGC kit you can get it from WGC, UN and lots of oversea shop, I don't think any retailer stateside have them in stock
but it's worth it
Well, I'm buying the base gun (an externally beat up stock 226) tomorrow night, I just sealed tohe deal. I'm kind of trying to get the experience of building my own gun out of this, as I normally don't do my own AEG tech work. If the Guarder kit feels nice I might just get that for the price and convenience, but the sanding of the BBU worries me a bit. I'll take a look at the Prowin. I'm trying to keep the metal kit price under $200, if at all possible.
I forgot to mention that this will be purely a skirmish pistol, so I'm also looking for a kit with good, crisp operation, decent gas efficiency, and a low enough price that I won't be afraid to scratch it up a little.

the prowin kit are excellent fit and finish, I would know because I had 4 of them and each is easy to fit and install, but better get them quick, they will not last long:

remember this, do NOT upgrade the hammer spring, with stock spring it will kick much harder rather than using upgraded 150% hammer spring will cause you have problem, just ask Andrew @ AEX, i did his Sig P226
and as always, if you have any problems you can let me know so I can help you, i also have spare parts for it
and don't forget, you can always post it here when you are done, but trust me, the prowin kit are GREAT!
I wasn't really looking to make it silver...
Would you really advise against the Guarder kit? Is it that much worse than the Prowin? I'm going to use this as my combat sidearm, so I don't want it to be so expensive that it scares me to use it.
well if you put it that way then I would tell you that the guarder kit is good, just remember to sand the BBU, well, you have to or else the it will not fit
people have report that after the kit is installed that the FPS drop to 260-270, and also it does not come with a barrel
is up to you
oh one more thing, if you plan to get your guarder kit from either AEX or airsoftGI, i can get better price for you, so let me know
