Doable? Anyone tried?

I think that depends of the sight itself, and i don't remember anyone mod a rear sight to a TM G17.

Personally i would just get one of the few aftermarket sights available like FA, Prog4(they make one but don't sell it because it is handmade or something) and recently some Trijicon style sights made by Detonator (they made some slides for the 17 and 26):

My original plan was to get a RS sight and try it out, it didn't work out too well when I did it for the USP Tactical so I am a bit skeptical to try another one. My point of contention was mainly a) I don't know how compatible are the dovetail. If its wider I can probably deal with that, but I'd like to avoid excessive filing/milling if possible. And I also don't know how the RS sight is structured. The Meprolight one I got for USP was cast/forged steel, with a deep "dimple"(basically volume without material, presumably to save cost) under the the dovetail area. So I don't have enough base material to drill/tap for the BBU screw. My plan was essentially the same with the Glock but seeing that link I figure I try the replica first....obviously it won't have tritium inserts though...
