I'm trying to figure out a cocking handle for my Limcat Open Gun. I was planning on a Prog4 handle but when I thought about more I realized that my SD optic mount may make that impossible.
From the look of it the cocking handle will be like the Bomar rear site where you have to remove the BBU to install it. The SD optic mount can only be taken off or put on when the gun is field stripped so it seems that the two are incompatible.
Does anyone have suggestions of other options?
You are right. It won't work unless you changed mounts.
Have you looked into the AIP cocking handle ? They make a scope mount too, but I forget what it looks like.
I think the handle portion can be unscrewed from the top, without having to remove the base.
I'm at work and don't have a link. But I think I posted a link somewhere here on Traders.
Try searching AIP.
Do you mind posting the pic of the Limcat, I have the AIP handle as well and it is slightly thicker than the ProG4(whcih I am using now) one and thus may run into issue if your optic mount is very close to the slide
Why can't you remove the optic(mount), field strip the gun, install the handle, the reinstall the optic(mount) and re-check zero? With the ProG4 setup it pretty much needs to do that. With 6 countersunk bolt the C-more does not need to be re-zeroed after....
He's running a double sided Shooters Design Scope mount. The one that attaches to the 5.1 frame/plugs.
Remeber the screws go in from the top of the frame with the slide off. So the mount has to be screwed in before the slide goes on.
Which would make it impossible with the PG4 handle installed on the slide.
Here's the link for all the AIP stuff

I guess the only other option would be a different scope mount.
Opps...Forgot about this thread.
Anyway, like the4thpower said, with the SD mount (which I really like) I cannot remove the mount without taking the slide off. I guess that I'll just have to get creative and come up with something custom.
Thanks for the confirmation.
there's always the Doctor RD set up. . .
then custom build an integrated Dr. mount & cocking handle system..oooh..that would be interesting!
or going with a full (or partial) length rail mounted directly on top of the slide..add scope of choice. . .and you can use any cocking handle
you can get a full length rail to attach to your 1911 slide and then you have the freedom of using whatever cocking handle you want:

You might be able to modify your rear sight so that it can go onto the slide without removing the bbu and then create a cocking handle that can be attached where the rear sight plate goes.
