I keep hearing rumors and vague comments about old WA pistols having LRB's installed and having range and accuracy that is second to none. However, I have not really seen any solid info about them (or really ever seen them for sale anywhere).
If anyone knows of an info source or has some first hand knowledge to share I would be very interested to hear it.
Rom, you just came into WA guns too late to witness Sheriff LRBs for sale. . I'd say around 2005 was the last time I saw LRBs for WAs READILY available at HK shops. Even then, that was at the tail-end.
I've shot a friend's WA that had a 6" LRB...I'd say good to 175 ft maybe even 200 ft. Range is what it is about, not accuracy, thus the name Long Range Barrel. More people have adopted IPSC tuning on their gbbs moreso than straight up skirmishing so accuracy is more important, thus everyone adopts tightbore barrels instead. Really, there's not a whole lot of NEED for long range pistols in todays skirmishing or pistol usage. Thus it killed Sheriff's product. Sheriff LRBs have great range, but lacks accuracy and consistency.
I currently have a 6" Sheriff LRB for my Speedcomp II ..but it is not installed. I had 2x 5" LRBs and 2x 6" LRBs and one time, but sold those several years ago.
I've owned several Classic LRB equipt Asahi's that would make any AEG look like a $20 springer in terms of range. (although, never had a 300 ft+ LRBed Asahi M60)
I'm not a person to go out in the field with a notebook to sit and record all my shooting data so I can't give you actual numbers. I have no patience for that. I just care that the gun works and is efficient & effective enough when I'm using it.
LRBs are NOT hard to make with the right tools..but it does take some trial and error to find the right "off-set" that works..gives you the range you want. Thus, alot of LRBs are cut for specific guns. A key element with LRBs is the outer diameter size, which is usually 10mm or more. Most AEG/GBB pistol barrels OD are 8mm at most. ..which means, if you're cutting an offset, you don't have a whole lot of material to cut before you start ruining the ID. Thus 10mm is used.
BUT, AEG/GBB barrels CAN be used for LRBs..you just need to turn down the AEG barrel a bit and install a 10mm or thicker "collar" that is pressed fit on..this "collar" should already have the offset drilled in.
some one sticky that.
or send it to ca.org then sticky it.... best explanation yet
but yeah, lrbs are great for range, takes a bit more tuning to get better accuracy.
what it does is it "super hops" the BB, which is why LRBs like much heavier BBs, most people i know dont use anything less than .28s, as in they treat them like aeg users would treat .20s....
correct me if i'm wrong on that cleaner, im no expert.
